Baby sizes are not the same from brand to brand, and the age on a label is only a starting point. Your baby's height and chest measurement tell you far more about how a romper will fit than their age does.
Which measurements to take
- Height: lay your baby flat and measure from the top of the head to the heel with the legs gently straightened. For a one-piece romper, height is the most important number, because a romper that is too short pulls at the shoulders and crotch.
- Chest: measure around the fullest part of the chest, just under the arms, keeping the tape comfortably loose.
- Waist: measure around the tummy at the belly button.

|---|---|---|---|
| 0–3 months | 17 | 17.5 | 24 |

| 6–12 months | 19 | 19.5 | 30.5 |

| 18–24 months | 20.5 | 21 | 35 |
If your baby is between sizes
Size up, and go by height first. A longer body is the most common reason a one-piece feels snug, even when the chest measurement still fits.
Buying a romper as a gift
If you don't know the baby's measurements, think about when the romper will be worn. A warm-weather romper for a baby due in winter is most useful in the size they will wear next summer. A gift receipt makes an exchange easy if the size is off.
