Teething Tips for Parents

Around 6 months, you may notice that your babe is fussy, uncomfortable, and maybe even eating less than normal. It’s around this time that many babies begin teething. While teething can be a challenging process, there are a number of ways you can help soothe your babe’s teething pain.

Teething tips

1. Size

Choose teethers that are specifically sized for baby hands. It may sound simple, but it's important to select teethers that your babe can easily grip and hold onto.

2. Safety

Select teethers that are made with your babe’s safety in mind. Opt for teethers that include a double-knotted design and feature only smooth edges.

3. High Quality

Opt for teethers that are made using high quality materials, like food-grade silicone and natural untreated wood.

Pro tip: Beech wood is naturally splinter-free and has natural antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, making it a premiere material for teethers.

4. Non-Toxic

Check teether descriptions to ensure they aren’t made using harmful chemicals. Look for teethers that are made from materials that are FDA approved, BPA-free, PVC-free, Phthalate-free, Latex-free, lead-free, petroleum-free and non-toxic.

5. Refrigerate Teethers & Pacifiers

Help soothe your little one’s teething pain by refrigerating teethers and pacifiers. The cold will help to numb their gums and reduce pain.

6. Popsicles

Use breast milk or formula to make frozen popsicles that your babe can enjoy. The frozen milk will help soothe their pain and they will get the added benefit of extra nutrients (especially if teething is causing them to eat less).

7. Frozen Fruit

If you’ve introduced solid foods into your babe’s diet, you can try frozen fruits. The cold will help numb their gums, while the fruit will provide additional nutrients and a sweet, healthy treat.

Teething is an inevitable process, but it doesn't have to be terribly uncomfortable for your little one. With the right teether, some frozen treats, and a few extra snuggles, you can help make teething a little easier for your babe.
